CHARACTER DESIGN + ILLUSTRATION
IT Heroes for Intel + Reddit
Art Direction: Samuel Murdoch, Ugly Duck / Animation: Emma Wakely + Leo Vodden / Sound: John Valledy / V.O. by Dan Crane
THE PROJECT
In partnership with Reddit, Intel hired me to create superheroes out of real I.T. folks who had saved the day using their skills and knowledge.
The script/stories were crafted from real user-submitted stories submitted on Reddit.
Creating the I.T. Heroes
I designed the heroes to be a very diverse team with a different skillset / superpower - each with fun names!
"Microbyte" can shrink to the size of an Intel Microprocessor while "Proxy" can use his kinetic abilities to assemble computers. Our wheeelchair hero can speed anywhere in an instand, so I named him "Bandwidth".
Branding
The costumes were designed as homages to superheroes, with capes and plasma cannons, magnet clasps and other fancy gadgets.
Each look was to be unique, but with a strong sense of Intel branding to ensure they looked like a team.
Here are some character turnarounds I created.
Storyboards and Keyframes
I created storyboards of the two stories to be animated.
To keep the comic book tone/feel I created the key frames for each scene, which the animator brilliantly brought to life with traditional animation!
Final Animation
Running just under a minute, this story packs a punch with a lot of dynamic angles and action!
